Information About Jeanette - Tauranga tutor

Personal Description:

I am a New Zealand citizen with a nursing background and I have also taught English over the years - to adults and children. My strengths would include an ability to relate to people of different cultures and ages and also a passion for learning - most recently in mathematics and chemistry. I speak Spanish and I have studied French, Maori and Chinese. I currently work in a high school as a teacher aide.

Tutoring Experience:

From 1990 to 2016 I intertwined nursing with teaching English to speakers of other languages. From 2016 I focused on teaching English to adults and children and then after the pandemic I branched out to teaching maths and Spanish to children while working for an after-school academy in Tauranga. After the pandemic I also starting working as a teacher aide in a high school; I currently work with a learning support team and we support teenagers with ADHD, autism and other challenges to their learning. I've developed an interest in assisting Year 10 students to achieve the CAA test (Common Assessment Activity), which is necessary to graduate with NCEA. The CAA test involves passing Numeracy, Writing and Reading tests.

Tutoring Approach:

The first lesson is important in order to understand the student and what their goals are. Teaching is based on a friendly relationship and includes subject-focused activities, games, Power Points, videos and use of the internet.
