Helping students understand Shakespeare and poetry (in which I have a PhD) is my speciality and I love doing it. If you or your child are struggling with accessing English language or literature courses, look no further! I have achieved great success over my teaching and tutoring career with helping students of all levels and from all starting points, whether at A-level or GCSE.
I am a PhD-educated, fully qualified English teacher at Key Stages 3, 4, and 5, and have been Head of English in a London state school for six years. I have also been an examiner for AQA since 2017, so I am up-to-date with the very latest exam information and changes. I attend exam board training regularly and have full access to all past papers and examiners' reports for AQA and Edexcel boards.
I studied at Russell Group universities and hold a BA (English), MA (Victorian literature), and a PhD (19th/20th century English poetry).
I have tutored many students in the past (GCSE, IGCSE, and A-level) and all have gone on to improve their grades. All my most recent tutees who worked with me weekly for six months or more gained at least a grade 5, and the vast majority achieved grades 7-9. Similarly, my A-level tutees also achieved an average increase of two grades between AS levels and A-levels (in some cases, an increase of four grades).
The tutor/tutee relationship needs to be based on interesting sessions and an understanding of how the tutee learns. I focus on working with the tutee to improve not only grades, but also the learning experience, and I aim to ensure that students enjoy literature they had previously dreaded.
