Home Tuition for Maths and English in Broadstairs

I have just retired from teaching as a Deputy Headteacher at a local primary school after forty one enjoyable years in many schools both here and in London. I live in Broadstairs with my wonderful family and have my own private study for tutor work.
My interests include badminton, reading, piano, guitar, chess and generally trying to stay fit and healthy.
I also have just a few fantastic young pupils whom I tutor occasionally.

Tutoring Experience

I have taught across the whole primary age range, but more recently specialised in supporting children in Years 5 and 6. I have particular experience helping pupils in Maths and English as well as preparing children for the Kent Test.
In my last two Ofsteds my teaching was rated 'outstanding'.

Tutoring Approach

I believe strongly in working collaboratively with pupils in a supportive and sympathetic learning partnership. I think it is so important to motivate and inspire pupils by recognising not only what they can't do but praising them for what they can already achieve. Creating a strong caring learning relationship right from the start is so very important to me and I begin this process by showing the children that I am genuinely interested in them and their progress. Wherever possible I do try and make the lessons inspirational and fun.
I would like to think my teaching is very personalised in style.
I always work collaboratively with parents before and especially after the lesson so that they are aware exactly what my expectations are as well as, importantly, how their children have got on in the lesson. I always in addition explain the implications of any homework set - and do this with the children there!
