My name is Kate, I have a 2:1 degree in History from Northumbria University and completed a PGCE at the University of Cumbria. I have been a Primary Classroom Teacher at a leading HMC independant school for 13 years.
Teaching and Learning is something I truly enjoy. I think confidence is key when mastering new skills and that all children should be given positive praise for their achievements.
I am a highly skilled practitioner with excellent curriculum knowledge and have a proven track record of excellent progress with children aged 5 - 11. Teaching in two local primary schools in the area has given me a lot of experience with the National Curriculum and expectations. I have become an expert in delivering assessment techniques and am able to track pupils progress throughout their primary school learning.
I have several years of experience working in Foundation Stage so have a solid understanding of many phonic and early reading techniques, including Jolly Phonics, Little Wandle and Collins Song of Sounds. I also have a concrete understanding of the Early Learning Goals.
Having worked with EAL pupils before I am able to use different learning techniques to assist those learning English as an additional language. I have worked with many tutees in preparation for their Year 2 and Year 6 SATS papers. I have also worked with children needing support on entering secondary school, helping them prepare and understand the Key Stage 3 curriculum.
I feel that tutoring can be very beneficial to help boost a childs self esteem and confidence in a subject. At primary level a child's enthusiasm for learning is key. As each child learns in a different way and reacts to different stimulus, I am able to tailor my tutoring sessions to your child's specific needs.
One to one support can assist children in a subject that they may find more difficult to grasp. Extra work on these subject areas can give children that extra push in the right direction.
