Marta

I am a patient and positive language teacher with a Master’s degree in Spanish Philology and TESOL certificate. As a specialist in Spanish literature and culture I provide extensive support to students who are preparing for their A-level in Spanish.
I have broad experience in working with GCSE students (including pupils with learning difficulties such as dyslexia and/or ADHD) therefore I am up-to-date with the current syllabus of any examination board.
I also teach English as a Foreign Language to adults, teenagers and children preparing them for FCE, CAE, CPE and IELTS exams.
I have been working as a private tutor for the last 10 years, providing individual and group lessons to learners of all ages and levels, therefore I have great awareness of the students’ learning and emotional needs, as well as developing a wide range of teaching techniques. As a linguist with broad theoretical and practical knowledge of foreign language acquisition, I understand how students can acquire a language, and thus how to guide them in their learning. I will provide you with enjoyable and efficient lessons where I will meet your expectations and fit into your learning style.

Tutoring Experience

I am currently teaching for Surrey County Council and I work for a variety of agencies providing support to GCSE and A-level students in Spanish and preparing for Cambridge exams in English as a Foreign Language.
Previously I worked as a Teacher of Languages in secondary schools and as a Teaching Assistant in primary schools in the UK and abroad.

Tutoring Approach

I successfully create an engaging learning environment where students’ effort is valued and where the learners can expand their abilities and improve their knowledge. I set different learning objectives to stretch and challenge the learners while addressing different students’ needs, by setting appropriate targets. Lower ability learners are provided with activities which suit their needs and match their levels, and at the same time, push them forward. The higher level pupils are prompted with extension tasks, usually open-ended, to let them expand their creativity and build on their language knowledge. I take responsibility of the assessment and attainment of learners. Both oral and written feedback is given to each learner to maintain a dialogue between the students and myself. I keep a record of students’ formative and summative assessment to be able to monitor their progress. By having these records I can identify any patterns in students’ performance and tailor the lessons according to their levels.
