Ex-Maths Head (Lead Practitioner) at a Secondary school.
Attained a "First Class Hons Bachelor degree in Mathematics" and also a "2:1 Hons Masters in Mathematics", giving me a strong grounding in the subject.
In my last 15 years of tutoring pupils, I have had experience in motivating students who are struggling with basic concepts and concentration issues, or who are simply becoming apathetic with learning. I also have experience with young overachievers who find that classwork in school is not challenging enough.
I have over 15 years of experience in teaching/tutoring Mathematics to KS2, KS3 and KS4 pupils, including GCSE and 11 plus.
I see my role as facilitator who imparts information in a way that triggers an idea into the mind of students and over a period of time enables them to build their knowledge on their own from that idea. Consequently, I follow Concept Mapping Model in mathematics and find it very helpful in establishing the relationship between numerous related concepts such as, in Number System and in Geometry.
In addition, I also use a modular approach when teaching Mathematics, breaking down difficult concepts into manageable sections. I am also patient and encourage students to ask questions and participate in what they are learning. In addition I am aware that each student will have a different learning technique and will take this into account when preparing for sessions.
