Ümit

I am a native Turkish and near-native German speaker (born in Germany) and have been teaching Turkish and German languages for 14 years. I hold a BA degree in German language and literature, and a PhD degree in Turkish language and literature (I wrote a thesis on comparative linguistics). I also have a certificate to teach Turkish as a foreign language. I have translated four works from German into Turkish, two of which are still in press. I also have some academic articles on comparative literature, lexicology and translation studies.

Tutoring Experience

I can summarise my teaching experience in the following way:
- Language teaching and education consultancy at several language schools in Turkey for 14 years (German, Turkish and English).
- Private tuition since 2012 (German, Turkish, English, Ottoman Turkish and Linguistics)
- Lecturing at two universities (in Turkey and Cyprus) for one year (Turkish Language)
- Preparation for language proficiency exams: German (inc. Start Deutsch 1 for family reunion) & Turkish.

- Turkish as native language (to Turkish people)
- Ottoman Turkish and its script
- German as foreign language (all levels, inc. Start Deutsch 1 for family reunion)

Tutoring Approach

Having a relaxed and friendly approach, I generally use the following methods: Communicative Language Teaching, Structural Approach, Lexical Syllabus, Grammar-Translation and Direct Method.
The most appropriate approach should be decided on before the tuition, depending on the learners and their needs.
