I'm an engaging, fun and considerate private tutor based in London. As of 2023 I have students in top UK private and state schools, as well as adult English language students. In this year's school entrance exams, one of my students received a special commendation for their English exam paper.
My name's Will I'm a recent Cambridge University graduate with a BA in English literature and a highly experienced tutor of English, History and maths, among other subjects in the City of London. I have been tutoring for over five years, with a passion for teaching and helping my students achieve their full potential. I also have a DBS Check.
As a recent English graduate I have a deep and broad working knowledge of my field, as well as the benefits of being a younger tutor: I have experience with the very latest exam regulations and I am a closer age to my students (which I feel helps develop a good working relationship and rapport!).
I offer:
A student-centred, personalised course of study for personal growth; and a regular weekly timetable to foster a good routine.
Any questions or queries please get in touch.
Please also get in touch about Oxbridge application tuition, Entrance exam prep and Interview preparation.
I have experience tutoring students from top independent schools in London and Suffolk, and also supporting applications to Oxbridge and Russell Group universities. I adapt my teaching style to each of my students, cultivating the best means for them to grow and learn.
I also have hundreds of hours experience over four years tutoring English one-to-one as a foreign language on online platforms.
I have been tutoring for over four years, with experience tutoring secondary (year 7 to year 11) and GCSE, and am happy to teach all ages from Primary, secondary, GCSE and A Level in English (Lit and Lang), Maths, History and Russian.
I achieved full UMS in A Level English Literature and 98% in my Cambridge Entrance exams (ELAT), and am very up to date with the modern exam systems.
I am also a published writer and an award-winning filmmaker, which both help me teach the craft!
My approach is to create a personalised course of study for each pupil, and commit to a series of lessons at a set time in the week to foster a productive routine. We organise causal tests to check progress, and our process is built around the key deadlines and personal goals of the pupil.
Entrance Exams
— With a mix of past paper practice and skills development, we create a bespoke course for young people applying for top schools
— I have experience working towards 11+ and CEM for grammar schools, as well as the English, Maths, Non-Verbal and Interview application process for independent schools
— I also have a bank of materials and past papers which we can fully explore
GCSE
— I find working with my students we can raise a predicted grade by a point, whilst also increase consistency in grades throughout Year 11
— We work together to comprehensively understand the course and the exam requirements
— I always work towards the marking criteria, in order to study with the end in mind, while allowing natural passion for the subject to flourish along the way
Secondary school students
— I have tutored students from top state and independent schools in London and Suffolk
— With my support, we tend to see grades rising from 5s and 6s in essay subjects to 7s, 8s and even a couple of 9s throughout a given term.
— I have also helped children of non-native speakers with self-expression and confidence in class, which has a dramatic impact on attainment and self-belief
— My lessons include classes, revision sessions, and help with essays and homework
Primary school
— I have supported pupils through the pandemic with all subjects
— In particular I have boosted their engagement with the work, with structured learning, rituals and routines
Speaking practice
— I have supported non-native English speakers, from school pupils through to adult learners to help with confidence and communicability
Payment options
I usually to take payment per session for my tuition, but I am also happy to accept a lump payment of the equivalent of 10, 15 or 20 hours, which we can 'dip into' in a more flexible way over time
